Some information, such as meeting times and location are displayed on our website www.gvua.com. You should attend the February 7th at Cal-Mum HS & February 15th meeting at the Pavilion 1st Baptist Church plus 3 of the other listed meetings. (March 16th & 21st meetings are mandatory) The more meetings you can make, the better it will be for learning the rules. You will be supplied the rule books.

 

To become a member you must be 18 years old. No umpire experience is necessary but it helps to know the game. High school ball games start at 4:15 or 4:30 PM during the week and usually 11:00 AM on Saturdays. You are required to be at the school 30 minutes prior to game time. During your first two seasons you will be umpiring the Modified & JV level games. By your third year you can move up to the Varsity level. We try to assign you to games with experienced umpires during your first year.

 

You are paid directly by the school you go to. You fill out a voucher prior to each game. You get it from and give it back to the Home Team’s Coach. The school will send you a check within 30 days.

 

This year’s pay rates are as follows: 

Modified: $ 39.15  +  Mileage  ($0.41/mile round trip)

JV: $ 45.70 + Mileage  ($0.41/mile round trip)

Varsity: $65.25 + Mileage  ($0.41/mile round trip)

 

The above game fees are multiplied by 1.5 when you are assigned a game alone.

This usually happens for Modified games. (Junior High Level)

 

Your costs are as follows:

1.)    Yearly Dues: $65.00 starting your second year (Waved your first year)

2.)    NYS Fingerprinting Charge: $120.00 (mandatory one time charge.)

3.)    Uniform & Plate Gear: Can be purchased new or used or maybe you can find some of our members with extra gear they don’t use.

If you have umpired a baseball game before & enjoyed it, then you will enjoy umpiring at the High School level. In addition, our group umpires summer baseball games from the Little League level thru the Men’s 30+ Leagues (pay $45-$60/game, no mileage).
